Pre plumbed water softener loop.
A softener loop is required to install a water softener.
When we install a soft water system, we will simply remove the loop and plumb in the softener as shown in the picture below.
Here the size doesn’t necessarily refer to the loop.
[1] in short, just cut the loop and install your softener at the spot.
To install a softener or a whole house filter a competent plumber would cut that exposed loop and plumb a service and return.
Do i have a loop?
I have neither of these.
A water softener is a gadget installed in a home’s plumbing system to help treat hard water.
Typically, there will be 110 volt outlet within 6 feet of the loop and a 1/2” drain line stubbed out of the wall.
However, if you do not have a loop, you will need to contact a licensed plumber to install a loop before a water softener can be installed.

A soft water loop helps you connect your water softening system to the internal plumbing of your house.
The 6 to 12 of pipe exposed in the garage is the water softener loop.
It also saves water since you don’t need to use soft water outdoors.
